Proposition: South Burbank Crime Prevention and Development District Proposition
Shall the South Burbank Crime Prevention and Development District (the “District”), through the Board of Commissioners of the District and the East Baton Rouge Parish Metropolitan Council, be authorized to renew a levy and collect an annual fee on each improved parcel of land located within the District in the amount of One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) for a residential or commercial structure; Twenty-Five Dollars ($25.00) for each unit in a condominium, residential, or commercial structure with four or more units, which fee shall be levied for a period of four (4) years, commencing on January 1, 2022 (an estimated $192,855.00 expected at the time to be collected from the levy of the fee for the entire year) and which fee shall be collected by any means authorized by law for the collection of taxes, as provided in La. R.S. 33:9097.2, the proceeds of said fee (after deducting the reasonable and necessary costs of collecting said fee) to be used in crime prevention and enhanced security of District residents by providing an increase of law enforcement or contracted security personnel in the District and creation of a crime free housing program and for other purposes permitted by applicable law?
A Crime Prevention District is a form of special tax district that collects taxes for a defined area to be used for a specific purpose. This proposition is only on your ballot if you live in the defined area of the district. The South Burbank District specifically charges a $100 service charge per year for all stand-alone residential and commercial lots and a $25 service charge per year for all units in a condominium or commercial structure with four or more units in the district.
Renews the South Burbank District for another 10 years, 2022-2031. This will collect $100 per year for each stand alone building and $25 for each condo or commercial unit in a structure with four or more units. An estimated $192,855 will be collected by this charge per year from the entire district. These funds will be spent on extra police patrols and beautification projects within the district.
The South Burbank Crime Prevention and Development District is not renewed. Funding from this tax’s service charge is no longer available for the area’s extra police patrols and beautification projects.
