Proposition: Hospital Service District No. 1 Proposition
Shall the Hospital Service District No. 1 of East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana (the “District”) be authorized to levy and collect a 20 mills ad valorem tax on the dollar of assessed valuation on all property subject to taxation within the boundaries of the District (the “Tax”) (an estimated $5,400,000 is reasonably expected to be collected from the levy of the Tax for an entire year), commencing with the tax collection for the year 2021, to and including the tax collection for the year 2030, and shall the proceeds of the Tax (after paying reasonable and necessary expenses of collecting and administering the Tax) be used entirely and exclusively for the purpose of COVID-19 related capital improvements at, and ongoing operations of, Lane Regional Medical Center?
A Hospital Service District is a form of special tax district that collects taxes for a defined area to be used for a specific purpose. This proposition is only on your ballot if you live in the defined area of the district. The Hospital Service District No. 1 specifically collects a 20 mills ad valorem tax per year for all property in the district.
Creates Hospital Service District No. 1 for 10 years, 2021-2030. This will collect a 20 mills ad valorem tax of assessed property in the district. An estimated $5,400,000 will be collected by this tax per year from the entire district. These funds will be spent on Covid-19 related changes at Lane Regional Medical Center.
The Hospital Service District is not created. The additional ad valorem tax is not collected.
